The Big Darby-Hellbranch Wetlands Mitigation Bank lies within the Big Darby watershed, specifically on the 12-digit watershed break between Big Darby Creek and Hellbranch Run. Home to 38 state- and federally-listed aquatic species, this watershed has been documented to be one of the most biologically diverse aquatic systems in the Midwest and one of the top warm freshwater habitats in the nation. The restoration of these wetlands and uplands from farmland further enhances and protects this valuable and sensitive watershed.

These wetlands are a part of the 6,786-acre Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park. The mitigation site includes a multi-use trail allowing visitors to view and enjoy the restored habitats.
